About AT
Our goals in studying the Alexander Technique are to learn to restore the buoyant, spring-like nature of the reflexive postural system through the skillful use of kinesthetic thinking and awareness.
We also study higher level skills - sitting, standing, playing guitar, etc. - where we learn to maintain the new, lengthened and expansive coordination we have achieved without indulging in the habits that cause us pain, tension, and ultimately limit our skill and development.
Some of the topics I cover with my students include:
-How our postural system is designed to work effortlessly (and how we interfere with it)
-Basic kinesthetic-awareness practices for calming the mind and body in unison
-Using kinesthetic-thinking to encourage muscles to lengthen in a coordinated way
-Studying the habits of tension that arise in activities such as playing an instrument
-How to use kinesthetic awareness to avoid these habits and achieve more effortless movement
